Entering the Void with the Eyes Open

Wonderful how completely everything in wild nature
fits into us, as if truly part and parent of us. The sun
shines not on us, but in us. The rivers flow not past,
but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber
and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them
glide and sing.
…embedded in your own sense of identity, embedded in your own sense of purpose, is a microscopic reflection of the larger purpose that is built into the universe.

Entering the Void with the Eyes Open

I woke up this morning with the thought that I have to lose myself to find myself. I have been seeing that there is baggage I need to leave behind; who I thought I was is weighing me down. It’s hard to let things go because it makes me feel that I’ve failed, that I am being fickle. No, I am evolving, that’s all. It’s part of the process of waking up. That’s what I say to myself.

You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition.  What you’ll discover will be wonderful.  What you’ll discover is yourself.  ~Alan Alda

Endurance is frequently a form of indecision.  ~Elizabeth Bibesco, Haven, 195

To know what you prefer, instead of humbly saying “Amen” to what the world tells you you ought to prefer, is to keep your soul alive.  ~Robert Louis Stevenson

Entering the Void with the Eyes Open

Dandelion Daze (June 16, 2012, Anchorage, AK)

Am I brave enough to see things as they are, from the space of inner contentment– and not as I wish they were, with an attitude of discontentment? If I am willing to adopt contentment as a stepping-off point, there is the possibility of genuine progress on the path.

Containment, Reliability, and Radiance (Gandhi and Steiner quotes)

Sun Sets in the North (Anchorage, AK, June 14, 2012)
Susitna at Sunset (Anchorage, AK, June 14, 2012)

The sun has radiance because it contains its power. Its reliability makes possible life on earth. The sun is worthy of emulation; it sets a high standard.

It is not so difficult to endure bullets in your chest; but it is extremely difficult to work daily on a schedule, to fight with yourself at every moment, and in this way, to purify yourself.

— Mahatma Gandhi

To summer’s radiant heights

The sun in shining majesty ascends;

It takes my human feeling

Into its own wide realms of space.

Within my own inner being stirs

Presentiment which heralds dimly,

You shall in future know:

A godly being now has touched you.

–Rudolf Steiner, The Calendar of the Soul, Tenth Week (June 9-15)

One With Nature, One With the World

Now what I’m trying to talk about is a deeper understanding of the pattern in which we live, and if you understand that, it suddenly hits you so that you feel, right in your guts, this new kind of existence that is NOT yourself alone facing an alien world, but yourself as an expression of the world in the same way as the wave is the expression of the ocean.

“In the silence between your heartbeats hides a summons.”

What in your life is calling you?
When all the noise is silenced,
the meetings adjourned,
the lists laid aside,
and the wild iris blooms by itself
in the dark forest,
what still pulls on your soul?

In the silence between your heartbeats
hides a summons.
Do you hear it?
Name it, if you must,
or leave it forever nameless,
but why pretend it is not there?
