Early to Rise

Early Morning Birthday Moon (July 11, 2012, 3:49 am, Anchorage, AK)

Since I had been up at sunset, it wasn’t easy to rise before sunrise. I took this shot from the bedroom window and went back to bed until the sun rose from behind Jenny’s roof. That’s when I knew I needed to get up– it was my birthday and I had a feeling this clear sky might not last. The early morning was sublime with the moon and sun taking their course, the birdsong, and the painting of the earth with the orange dawn glow. Sure enough, the clouds made their way in for the rest of the day. But I had gotten my birthday cup of sun and moon nectar.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Do or do not … there is no try.

With Ben’s help, I had my wished-for birthday conference call with my mother and three aunts, who were all there when I was born 65 years ago. My sister was on the call; so was “Mean Uncle John.”  It was the first time we tried to use Skype for a call, and it was nip and tuck. I didn’t know if  it would work, but I knew we wouldn’t give up. We didn’t. It did! We DID it!

Making Peace with the Past

When you can finally say to yourself that you wouldn’t have wanted the past to be any other way, then you come to a place where you can fully have acceptance, allowance, and forgiveness for yourself and others. The best part, you are open to allow for the greatness that is blessing you this very moment to embrace you and you become free to receive what is to come that is in your highest good. Peace and grace are in the state of acceptance and it starts with making peace with our past. -Kat Zaghi

Morning Breeze

The breezes at dawn have secrets to tell you

Don’t go back to sleep.

–Rumi

At this time of year it’s hard to keep my intention to rise for dawn. Lately I have had to allow myself to sleep through it because my body needs the rest. But some mornings I am able to rise before dawn, and this morning was such a morning (sunrise– 4:43). I was wakened by a cool, gentle breeze caressing me from the open window. I was able to rise and do the dawn prayers on the front porch. For some time now I have felt that the breezes are the touch of God; I feel blessed by the breeze through the window. I am sheltered and cozy, but God finds a way to reach me through nature. The touch of the breeze pulls me inward, to the inner sanctuary of loving attention, to the place of comfort, solace, and complete security.

All happiness you desire is within you. It is there in its entirety, in its full manifestation.

The Earth and Me

  • ‎”Walk and touch peace every moment.
Walk and touch happiness every moment.
Each step brings a fresh breeze.
Each step makes a flower bloom.
Kiss the Earth with your feet.
Bring the Earth your love and happiness.
    The Earth will be safe
when we feel safe in ourselves.”~Thich Nhat Hahn

Beauty

For me, this photo captures something essential about beauty. It shows that humans are able to rival nature’s ability to generate beauty.

Divine Light

When the sun rises, we say it is daytime. The light makes everything glisten. The world becomes apparent because of its radiance. Then when the sun sets, we say it is nighttime. However, the divine light doesn’t come and go; the light that exists in the sun is also present in the moon and the stars. It also exists in trees and plants and the wind. The divine light is unceasingly alive in every particle of Consciousness.  It is in tune with the universal soul. The deathless immortal light that pulsates with knowledge exists in everything.

And when I live in senses’ heights,

There flames up deep within my soul

Out of the spirit’s fiery worlds

The gods’ own word of truth:

In spirit sources seek expectantly

To find your spirit kinship.
